Man conned of over Rs 2 lakh, fraudster nabbed

Senapati, June 03 2018: In one of the rarest cases in the State, 4 Maintenance Group Assam Rifles (4 MGAR) Maram Bazar, Senapati and District Police came to the rescue of an ex-serviceman by the name Koda Ashuli of Maram Bazar, Senapati from the diabolic clutches of a fraudster Derby Communication (India) Pvt Ltd.

As per report, Koda Ashuli came across a newspaper advertisement about installation of Jio tower some months back.

He contacted the company and the Derby company (India) Pvt Ltd approached him through telephone on March 15 and 18 for the installation of the Jio tower.

The company instructed him to deposit money in advance.

He was lured to deposit large sums of money 5 times.

On March 19, he first deposited Rs 13,900 and then deposited Rs 41,700, the same day.

On March 26, he deposited Rs 97,200 and on April 5 he deposited Rs 21,100.On April 10, he deposited Rs 27,800 .

After depositing a total of Rs 2,02,300 (Two lakhs, two thousand and three hundred), he was asked to submit documents such as land ownership certificate, passport, domicile and tribe certificate, Aadhaar number, photocopy of bank passbook, pan card etc via email and whatsapp.

After receiving the money, the company through whatsapp affirmed that he will not receive the tower, loan or credit card but would receive international tour, health insurance, for family, medicine discounts and dinning discount cards.

The company then tried to detached him.

Ashuli then realised that it was a fraud company.

He approached the 4MGAR and told them about the case.

The commandant and Deputy Commandant, Adjutant of 4MGAR took instant action by helping him register an FIR at Mao Gate Police Station on May 14 against the Derby Communication (India) Pvt Ltd.

He later approached Senapati SP, Imphal SP and send email to DGP Mumbai, SSP Mumbai, Joint Commissioner of Police and Cyber Crime Cell, Mumbai.

The ICICI bank freezed the account in which Ashuli sent the money.

The fraudster who, posed as a representative of the fraud company-Derby Communication (India) Pvt Ltd based in Mumbai, Maharashtra was apprehended and was made to return all the money to Koda Ashuli.

On June 2, he recovered the full amount of Rs 2,02,300 .

In a interview, Koda Ashuli thanked the 4MGAR and Police Department especially Mao Gate, Senapati and Imphal.

The commandant, 4MGAR, stated that fraudsters tend to target rural folks because of their innocence and lack of awareness about such activities.

Rural folks are a more easy target, he said.

He appealed public to be more vigilant and cautious about fraudsters.
