11 KGBVs will be upgraded to high school from next academic session: Radheshyam

Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam today made a visit at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, (KGBV) Ukhongshang and the recently inaugurated Residential School, Lilong.
Accompanied by the Engineering Wing of the Education Department, the Minister inspected the schools to look into the viability of the schools to be upgraded to High Schools by adding class IX and X.Th Radheshyam said that the Central Government has given approval for upgradation of the residential school and KGBV into a High School.
The residential School and KGBV, both constructed under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme, have classes from VI to VIII, however, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya.
(KGBV) Ukhongshang, has recently introduced class IX from this year's academic session.
The Minister asserted that, following the approval of the Central Govt, all nine residential schools and 11 KGBVs will be upgraded into high schools from the next academic session of 2019-20.He also informed that the classes at KGBV, Ukhongshang, is being carried out in a 'make- shift' for the time being with more than 100 students.
The Minister also interacted with the teachers, students and the guardians during his visit.
The residential school and KGBV were introduced by the Government with an objective to provide children belonging to poor families and minority sections free and compulsory elementary education.
The Minister, who is also the concerned MLA of the Heirok A/C also visited the construction site of the Litan bridge.
