With the Assembly elections just 4 days to go, election related crimes in the state is rising by the day.
The NSCN (IM) cadres attempted to abduct the President of Nungba Block Congress Committee (NBCC), while three Congress workers were shot and wounded by suspected cadres of NSCN (IM) which consequently led to an irate mob ransacking the house of an NPF worker.
The incident took place in the wee hours today.
Sources revealed that today around 2:10 am at Noney Part-3, suspected NSCN-IM cadres numbering about eight intruded at the house of Dimthaobung Kamei, President of NBCC and enquired about his whereabouts.
When the family members told that he was not at home, the NSCN (IM) cadres tried to further intrude into the interior of the house and search for him.
This led to a verbal altercation between the cadres and the family members and the locals.
Later the cadres went away from the house.
But, the NSCN (IM) cadres went to the office of NBCC and told the locals youths staying and guarding the office to shut down the office and also to bring down the Congress flag.
The locals which numbering around 20 reacted to the demands of the NSCN (IM) cadres following which one of the cadres fired some shots and then began firing indiscriminately in the crowd.
Three persons were injured in the act.
They were immediately rushed to the 10th AR camp located at Noney and given first aid.
The three injured persons have been identified as Lungkhurei Kamei (29) s/o Dimthaochung Kamei, Tigonglung Kamson (20) s/o Stephen and Gangchumei Golmei (30) s/o Gaithonlung Kamei.
They were later shifted to RIMS for medical treatment and they are now out of danger, hospital sources said.
They are supporters of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Gaikhangam who is contesting the January 28 Manipur polls from Nungba constituency, police said.
As an aftermath of the incident, irate mob destroyed the house of a worker of Naga People's Front (NPF), Kahangoi Kamei (40) at Namdonjang, Tupul today at around 9 in the morning.
Almost all the belongings including TV, Refrigerator, telephone, gas stoves doors, windows and other belongings were destroyed by the mob.
The mob also had beaten Kahangoi Kamei and his family members.
A public meeting was also convened at Noney Bazaar where the people demanded that the NSCN (IM) should to take the responsibility of treating the injured persons.
Meanwhile, one person sustained injuries when unidentified persons opened fire at five different places of Congress workers and candidates while two bombs have exploded out of the three bombs hurled during the last 24 hours.
Unidentified gunmen fired around 22 rounds of gun shots at the house of one Laiphrakpam Khomdon (46), s/o L Papu of Andro today at around 1 am.
He is a member of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee.
Gun shots were also fired at the house of one Moirangthem Ibocha(40) s/o late M Erabot of the same locality, just few minutes after the first incident.
Incidentally, at the same time, unidentified armed personnel also fired gun shots at the house of one Ayekpam Ibomcha (44) s/o late A Nimaichand of Yambem Mathak Shantipur Leikai.
None were hurt in the incidents.
In another gun firing incident, armed persons fired gun shots at the house of one Mutum Inaocha (50),worker of Congress candidate of Khangabok A/C, Okaram ongbi Landhoni at Wangjing Lamding Laikon today at around 3 am.
Meanwhile unidentified miscreants hurled a bomb at the house of one Ksh Chaoiba, Councillor, Kakching Municipal Council at around 11:30 pm yesterday where it exploded.
Though no human casualty was reported, two dogs were killed in the act.
Also yesterday, a Manipur police bomb squad team recovered some explosive materials suspected to be IED from the residence of Huidrom Bimol, 45 of Nongpok Kakching in Lamlai Constituency, while an IED was also found at the residence of Moirangthem Major, 42 of Noingren Awang Leikai Awang Khunou.
The two are supporters of CPI candidate Ph Parijat, also contesting the general elections.
