Cultural centre for North East inaugurated

The Centre for North Eastern Culture in the National Capital was open to the people of North east and the general public today at a solemn inaugural function at the centre's campus lawn in Dwarka, West Delhi.
The inauguration was held in commemoration of the 25thAnniversary of the Mizo Peace Accord, signed on 30th June 1986. The centre is a joint collaboration of the North East Council (NEC) and Cultural Resources and Training ( CCRT).
Speaking at the function Smt Kumari Selja, Minister of Culture and Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation said that the idea was initiated in 2009 when a group of north east student representatives met Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh at his office chamber .
The interaction meeting was held in the aftermath of a series of physical attacks and harassment meted out to the northeast population in Delhi particularly to the women folks.
Kumar Selja stated that the cultural centre is located in a central new township of Dwarka, which is well connected.
Laying emphasis on the need for knowing and understanding different culture and people, the culture Minister said that the centre would facilitate as the major hub of meeting point for the northeast people in particular and for anyone to mingle and interact, "we all need to learn from each other" she said.

Further talking about the State of Mizoram she added " we have come a long way" Shri Paban Singh Ghatowar, Minister of State (Independent Charge), for Development of North East Region & Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs informed that the NEC and CCRT have entered into an understanding in December 2011 for the cultural centre operation , which will function under the overall management and control of the Director General of CCRT.
In commemoration of the Mizo Peace accord an exhibition of food products, handloom and handicraft will be held from today till January 28. Maintaining that peace prevails as in Mizoram and other states, in reply to the question from media, Ghatowar said "All the NE insurgent groups are in the process of talks and dialogue".
He said, "The cultural centre will serves as space for the colourful people of northeast to showcase culture to other parts of India".
Cultural performance from different communities of northeast, Rasleela, Pung cholon, Cheraw dance and others added colours to the inaugural function.
