Literature fest starts at JNM Dance Academy

A literature of five languages spoken in different parts of India and three spoken in Manipur was opened today at JN Manipur Dance Academy.
The festival which would go on till January 13 is being jointly organised by the Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi and Manipur State Kala Akademi.
The inaugural function was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, JN Manipur Dance Academy Vice Chairman Prof N Tombi and Manipur State Kala Akademi Fellow RK Jhaljit as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Giving key-note address, Manipur State Kala Akademi secretary S Bedeshwar said that the festival, third of its kind, would be participated by scholars of Telegu, Gujarati, Bodo, Assamese and Manipuri languages.
Moreover, Kabui, Tarao and Kom dialects would also feature in the festival.
The festival is aimed at generating awareness about the literatures of different languages spoken in the country, Bedeshwar said.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam remarked literature is a great force which never fails to influence mankind.
A souvenir as well as a half-yearly journal of the Manipur State Kala Akademi were also released on the opening day of the festival.
Folk song demonstration of Kabui, Kom and Tarao communities would be made by Heera Marangmei, Mangpu Karong and L Morre Tarao tomorrow morning followed elucidatory comments.
Laishram Birendrakumar would moderate the session.
The afternoon session would be presided by Gopal Nakka and there would be poetry recitation by Yengkhom Bihari, Udayan Thakur (Gujarati), Dr Lairenlakpam Ibemhal Devi, Naorem Bidyasagar, Longjam Kunjarani, DL Kabui, Thoudam Netrajit and Angam Jatung Chiru.
There would be presentation of papers on the topic 'Present trends of short story in North East India' in the morning session of January 13 and it would be moderated by Longjam Joykumar.
Janaklal Basumatary (Bodo), Santanu Phukan (Assamese) and BS Rajkumar would present papers.
Prof IS Kangjam, Yengkhom Indira, Sudhiranjan Moirangthem, Nee Devi, Debachandra Takhellambam, Nabakumar Nongmeikapam and Yendrenbam Randhirkumar would read out short stories in the afternoon session of the day which would be chaired by Elangbam Dinamani.
