Green snake, barn owls rescued

People for Animals (PFA), Thoubal have rescued one green snake and two Barn Owls.
According to a statement issued by L.Biswajeet Meitei, the Managing Trustee of PFA Thoubal, on being informed about a green snake, a rescue team of PFA quickly moved to Thoubal Sabaltongba on Thursday and found a beautiful green snake inside a box.
The snake which looks like a plastic snake was young Green Trinket Snake (Elaphe prasina).
The non-venomous snake was found by a twin sister namely Sanasam Roji and Sanasam Rojita who are studying in class II.
Green Trinket snakes are found in Northeastern India and southern part of Peninsular Malaysia but it is rarely seen.
Except in dense forests, they are nearly impossible to been one in the valley of Manipur now-a-days.
The snake might have crawled out from the firewoods which were brought from Chandel to Sabaltongba recently.
The snake might have been hibernating inside the hollow of a log, Biswajeet said, while informing that the rescued snake would be released at a suitable site shortly.
On the other hand, two young Barn Owls (Tyto Alba) were reportedly handed over to PFA by Prof..NIbotombi, Dr.Salam Opendra, Sanasam Subhamenon and Heisnam Sanatomba of Manipur University on January 2 and both the birds were released yesterday.
Another one young Barn Owl was also handed over by Prof.Maibam Ranjit, President Manipur University Teachers Association (MUTA), Prof..SIbotombi, Secy.
MUTA and T.Tomba of Manipur University yesterday.
Accordingly, it would also be released to its natural habitat shortly, Biswajeet said, adding that the birds might have been displaced from their nests due to the recent cutting of grasses in the university campus.
