Agriculture Minister calls upon farmers to share equal responsibility

A day-long Farmers Fair 2014 jointly organized by Central Agriculture University Research Center, KVK Andro and Central Agriculture University (CAU), Imphal was held at the premises of KVK Andro today.
The programme was graced by Md Abdul Nasir, Agriculture Minister as Chief Guest; Dr Thokchom Meinya, outer MP as President while Dr Swapam K Datta, Deputy Director General (Crop Science) ICAR, New Delhi and Thanso Baite, inner MP as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, , Md Abdul Nasir called upon the farmers to take equal responsibility and put in concerted effort to make the State a self-sufficient land in agricultural products and assured that the State Government will extend all possible helps to farmers in this regard.
Dr Meinya stated that the Central Agriculture University has able to provide much valuable assistance to the farmers and stressed on the need for more emphasis on meeting the local demands of agricultural products.
Thanso Baite noted that given the fact that Manipur shares International boundary with Myanmar, there is enough potential for development in agriculture sector.
But there is the need for more co-operations between the neighboring States to accelerate the agricultural products.
A total of 17 stalls including from Central Agriculture University participated in the fair and a varieties of winter vegetables and crops were exhibited for display cum sale.
Several books titled 'Kissan Diary', 'Newsletter of Central Agriculture Research Center' and 'Book on Rice' were also released to mark the occasion.
