Developed by the villagers with the machinery support of the Indian Army, the sprawling Maiba Khul Football Ground near maram in Senapati district is all set for a grand inauguration on January 21 .
As part of the inauguration event a football tournament expected to draw participation of 60 teams from Maiba Khul and nearby villages would be held.
The ground has been developed at the highest point of Maiba khul.
ahead of the grand inauguration of the ground, Member of District council RP Dani, MDC NG Pou, district Forest officer (Senapati) KH Thaisii, Director (Vety), Kangpokpi Dr Daili Lawo, Inspector (Labour Department) Th Louniiao, Sheemai Union Senapati president Kh Lemo, BJP Manipur Morcha vice president BK Ngaopuni, and social workers D Dailord and Lolly LD Pou today inspected condition of the ground and the approach road to the playing field.
Interacting with The Sangai Express some Maiba Khul villagers confided that a total amount of about Rs 1.5 crore collected through contribution by the villagers as well as donated by some individuals has been spent in developing the ground, the second in the village, but the largest in terms of size, and construction of the approach road.
The ground development work that started around November 1 last year also necessitated use of bulldozers provided by an Army unit of the Red Shield Division and excavators.
Even though local organisers are determined to ensure that the football tournament is conducted in a smooth and attractive manner further development of the ground, particularly infrastructure development needs support and patronage by both the Government and selfless individuals, expressed the villagers.
