Senapati District and Sessions Court opened

Opening a Court is not enough.
What is more important is enhancing power and quality of the Court, stated Manipur High Court Acting Chief Justice Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of the Court of District and Sessions Judge, Senapati held at Senapati District Court complex today.
The inaugural function was graced by Chief Minister O Ibobi as chief guest, Chief Justice Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra as president and Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, Manipur High Court Judge Justice N Kotiswar and Advocate General Th Ibohal as guests of honour.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the Court by unveiling the plaque.
The Chief Justice said that lots more need to be done in the field of subordinate judiciary.
Nevertheless, the Court inaugurated today has earned a distinction of being the first District and Sessions Court in the hill districts of Manipur.

There are plans to set up a Sessions Court, a Chief Judicial Magistrate Court and a Magistrate Court in each and every district of Manipur.
Quoting the Justice Shetty Commission report, the Chief Justice stated there should be 50 Courts for every 10 lakh people.
But as of now there are only 4/5 Courts for every 10 lakh people.
As such, there is a need to increase the number of Courts four or five times.
Justice Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra exuded that Manipur would have minimum number of Courts in the next 4/5 years.
In his address, Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that opening the Court would help in delivering justice to the people of Senapati district.
The Government was only providing logistic support to the initiatives made by Justice Mohapatra.
The Government would provide necessary infrastructure for the District and Sessions so that it can function to its full potential.
The complex where the Court stands today was earlier occupied by Senapati Executive Engineer.
The complex was left vacant after the EE's office was shifted to the mini-secretariat.
Ibobi also promised to provide necessary places of accommodation.
Reminding that legislature, judiciary and executive are the three pillars of democracy, Ibobi stated that democracy would not work when any one of the three organs start malfunctioning.
Stating that bandh and blockades only bring misery to people apart from impeding development programmes, th Chief Minister appealed to all sections of people not to take recourse bandhs and blockades.
Senapati District Bar Association secretary Adani Konuo Mao, Advocate General Th Ibohal, many lawyers, local leaders and officials of Law and Legislative Affairs Department too spoke at the inaugural function.
