Restore academic atmosphere at Manipur University: FEGOCTA

The Federation of Government College Teachers' Association (FEGOCTA) in a press release expressed its concern about the violence over the change in the reservation and suspension of examinations, admission process etc, and immediate vacating of hostels in Manipur Universal.
These unfortunate events have caused anxiety to the students, parents as well as the teaching community and also great inconvenience to the hostellers.
In this matter, FEGOCTA demanded early restoration of academic activities and peaceful environment in the university, it said continuing that the MU authority should take up immediate steps for dialogue with the agitating students and stakeholders for understanding and amicable solution to the present crisis keeping in mind the academic future and the interest of the students.
FEGOCTA believes that violence and authoritarian methods will not solve the in the university, it informed and further appealed to the concerned authority of MU to take decisions in consultation with all the affected groups and stakeholders in future in a democratic manner so as not to repeat such avoidable events.
The release further conveyed that Manipur University should be a model of democratic decision making and peaceful resolution of divergent claims and interests.
It should be remembered by all concerned that Manipur University is the highest institute of learning, research and intellectual and academic pride of the State, it added.
International Youth Day Dendrite adhesive a new threat to youth's mental health LAMKA, Aug 12: The 'Dendrite' adhesive which has been a preferred inhalant among today's school going kids is posing a devastating threat to the mental health of youths as it witness mounting takers and is more damaging than other abusive substances such as heroine said Dr Gyaneshwar Singh.
The psychiatrist at district hospital Churachandpur made the stalk revelation during the International Youth Day (IYD) celebration organized by the Centre for Community Initiative (CCI), a non-profit organization working for the rehabilitation of children with disabilities at its Malsawm Ability Resource Centre, Pearsonmun.
He was speaking on the day's theme � 'mental health matters' when he raised the new trend of youths using dendrite as substance abuse.
He claimed to have met many students embroiled with the addictive adhesive and warned that it is more destructive than other notorious abusive substances such as heroine as it affects the brain within a few months.
Students will lose their capacity to retain memory and will be swiftly evident from their academic performance and eventually it will end up influencing their intelligence which will in turn affect not just them but their family and the their environment.
According to Dr Singh most of the mental related illness including the suicidal attitude of a person has their roots when a person is in between the ages 15 and 24.Stigma and discrimination endured during the same period, besides the cases of substance abuse, are the main reasons for such an illness he added.
The international youth day celebration was attended by L Ibomcha Singh, Commissioner (Disability) Manipur, staffs from the directorate of Social Welfare and Doctors Without Borders.
As part of the day's observation, numerous competitions including fancy dress, Hip Hop Dance, talent show and write-ups on five point youth agenda was conducted later in the programme.
All participants are awarded Certificates from the UNDP alongside other prizes.
