Sit-ins staged for protection of State's integrity

Imphal/Kak/Tbl, May 15 2023: Demanding a solution for the prevailing communal conflict in the State and protection of State's integrity, a sit-in protest was staged today by the locals of surrounding areas of Wangkhei Pujak Lampak under the aegis of the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) .

The locals of Wangkhei pledged to safeguard the unity and integrity of Manipur and raised many slogan such as 'Safeguard the integrity of Manipur', 'Confine the Kuki militants who are under Suspension of Operation (SoO) in their designated camps', 'Government should stop economic blockade', 'Government of India should stop playing divide and rule policy', 'Manipur should not be made a part of golden triangle', 'Implement NRC immediately', 'Myanmarese Kuki should not be allowed to stay in Manipur', 'No SoO Kuki militants in Manipur' and so on, said a press release by the Young Voluntary Organisation (YVO), Wangkhei Pujah Lampak.

The locals of Wangkhei also strongly condemned the burning of Meitei houses yesterday at Torbung by the alleged SoO Kuki militants when, the tense situation seems to be subsiding a bit and urged to all concerned to refrain from such acts in future. Kakching

Urging the State Government to bring a resolution to end the turmoil in the State at the earliest, Meira Paibis of Langmeidong stage a sit-in protest at Langmeidong Keithel today.

Slogans demanding for a resolution with regards to the prevailing unrest, appeal for restoration of peace and normalcy, demand for stringent actions against Kuki militants who are violating the ground rules of SoO pact etc were also raised by the protestors.

Voicing the same demand and pledging support to the initiatives of COCOMI, a democratic sit-in protest was staged at Yairipok Keithel today organised by Yairipok Bazar Ima Lup.

Speaking at the sidelines, one of the protestors claimed that the present unrest in the State is a result of the conspiracy of external forces threatening the peaceful coexistence of the State.
