Shots fired, forest set ablaze

Several firings by sus-pected Kuki militants were reported in various places of the state.
According to a report, sus-pected Kuki militants fired sev-eral rounds from the hills in Phayeng on Monday afternoon.
However, no injuries were re-ported.
Another shooting by suspected Kuki militants was reported in an area of Torbung village but there were no in-juries.
On the other hand, some un-known group of people set fire to a vehicle in an area located 25km from New Keithelman-bi on Imphal-Jiribam road in Kangpokpi district on Monday.
Meanwhile, suspected Kuki militants under So0 reportedly burned down the Uyok Uma-ng (forest) in Phayeng on May 11, Phayeng Khungang Peace Committee conveyed to media persons on Monday.
As per the Committee, the suspected Kuki militants bumed down around 70 percent of the forest, which the people of Phayeng had been protecting for many years.
In addition, the militants fired at the lo-cals, causing mass hysteria and panic.
As such, the Committee appealed to the state govern-ment to look into the matter.
