Imphal, May 15 2023:
Demanding the government to identify and deport illegal immigrants, six student bodies have decided to intensify movement for updating National Register of Citizens (NRC) for the state.
Informing this during a press meet held at MSF office, spokesperson of the joint student body S Bidyananda questioned the responsi-bility of security forces deployed in the state with reference to attacks on villages located in foothills and arson of houses.
Such incidents have raised suspicion if the security forces are aiding the mobsters, he said while highlighting incidents of abduction of civilians and burning of houses at Torbung, armed attacks on com-mandos and security personnel as well as on villages located in foothill areas.
Such incidents testify incapability of security personnel in controlling the situation.
At the same time, levelling the homestead lands of Meeteis in Churachandpur using bulldozer also raises question on the security arrangement being made in the district, he said while demand-ing adequate measures for rehabilitation and resettlement of displaced people by restoring peace and normalcy at the earliest.
He also questioned failure of the government in providing safe passage to transporters along NH 2 and wondered why the government is al-lowing the mobs to lay siege on the highways.
Stating that people in the foothill villages are worried about their life due to persistent armed at-tacks by SoO militants, Bidy-ananda expressed concern that there seems to be no ap-propriate measure to address the law and order situation.
Considering the situation, it is up to the villagers to defend themselves through lawful means, he said.
At the same time, the demand for separate ad-ministration raised by 10 MLAs, who support illegal immigrants, is a serious issue and the six student bodies strongly condemn such irre-sponsible acts from the elect-ed people's representative.
The student bodies can never accept any attempt to snatch state land by any group of people, who migrated into the state, he added.
