Imphal, May 15 2023:
Highlighting hardships faced by media houses in the state due to restrictions imposed on national highways by protestors and internet shutdown by government, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has appealed to the government to address these issues.
In a statement, AMWJU said that internet shutdown by the government to contain the violence has severely affected media houses in accessing and collecting news.
At the same time, correspondents are also facing severe inconveniences in sending reports to their respective agencies while blockade on national highways is affecting the print media houses as their stocks of newsprint and other press materials are exhausting.
Considering the hardships and under-standing the role of media in this crisis situation, AMWJU appealed to the gov-ernment to open the national highways to allow safe passage of transport vehicles, and to exclude media houses from purview of internet ban.
