Protect assets left in Moreh: HC to Govt

The High Court of Manipur has directed the State Government to provide adequate security to protect houses and properties belonging to people evacuated from Moreh.
The direction was given by a bench of the Court comprising Justice Ahanthem Bimol Singh and Justice A Guneshwar Sharma while hearing a petition filed by one Khumanthem Devabrata Singh against the State.
The petition stated that a large number of people belonging to Meitei, Tamil and other minority communities have been evacuated from Moreh town due to the ethnic clash and they have left their houses and properties without any protection.
In the Court, N Prista, the counsel of the petitioner prayed for an interim order directing the respondents to safeguard the houses and properties of the evacuated people in Moreh against burning and destruction by miscreants.
M Devananda, Addl AG submitted that a similar PIL was pending before the Apex Court and hearing is coming up on May 17 .
The Addl AG further submitted that as the Apex Court is monitoring the present situation in Manipur, the matter be taken up after considering the outcome of the case before.

The Court, after hearing the submissions, posted the matter on May 22 and in the meantime directed the State Govern-ment to provide adequate security for protecting the houses and properties left in Moreh by the people evacuated during the clashes.
