Imphal, March 25 2022:
Federal Students' Organisation (FESOK) has come out strongly against the non-inclusion of Manipuri language among the 13 language test subjects in the recently announced Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission to various integrated/under-graduate, post graduate and research programmes in all 45 Central universities.
In a statement, FESOK has urged the Language Directorate and Manipur University to open up communication channels with the Indian, administration and UGC to ensure that the required actions are undertaken to rectify the same.
Further, FESOK has also demanded that Manipur University issue a clarification in this regard before March 30 .
They also questioned why officials of Manipur University had not informed the UGC authority that Manipuri language ought to be included.
FESOK alleged that the exclusion of Manipuri language highlights the Indian government's penchant to focus on Hindi and Sanskrit languages while completely disregarding the languages of minority populations.
The student body also expressed discontent over the issue of NET exams conducted in February of this year wherein many students of the state were unable to appear in the Manipuri language paper as the questions were not printed in Meitei Mayek but in the Bengali script.
FESOK has also appealed to the Language Directorate to launch relevant programmes through which people of Manipur can learn Meitei Mayek.
