Karingei festival celebrated

The 13th State level Karingei, the traditional New Year festival of the Inpui community was celebrated amidst pomp and show on Jan 6 at Haochong Playground, Tamenglong district.
The celebration programme with the theme, 'Culture, Unity and Prosperity' was graced by S Bheigya Singh, Joint Director (Arts and Culture), Govt of Manipur and Bt Agwam, president of Inpui Naga Union as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively while Bt Thambou, EM, Tamenglong ADC; Aimson Chiru of NYK Imphal and Lourembam Surjit Singh, Asst professor of IILM Groups of Institutes, Delhi-NCR were the special guests, according to a statement.
Speaking at the occasion, S Bheigya strongly preached the hill-valley unity despite professing different religions.
Urging the gatherings to preserve the culture and traditions of the Inpui community, Bheigya also exhorted the villagers to strive towards maintaining stable economy.
Bt Agwam noted that although Inpui tribe is accorded recognition by the Govt, the tribe lags behind others in every front.
He urged all concerned to contribute towards the upliftment of the tribe in times to come.
Bt Thambou, EM, Tamenglong ADC also spoke on the occasion.
Various cultural items of the tribe like 'Katabianlu Laam,' 'Thourang Laam,' Taren Kaloinu and 'Potpui Phunnu' were displayed during the festival.
The celebration culminated with musical extravaganza that went on till late night.
Meanwhile, 10 AR provided the Haochong Govt HS with indoor games equipment on the occasion of Kairengai festival besides imparting career guidance to the students of the village.
