The 3rd Enviro Youth Summit of Manipur was inaugurated today at Keibul Lamjao National Park, Bishnupur district under the auspices of North East Centre for Environmental Education and Research (NECEER) .
Dy Conservator of Forest (Park and Sanctuary Div), L Joykumar attended the inaugural function of the summit as the chief guest.
The inaugural day of the summit was marked by competitions on painting, essay writing, short story writing, quiz and symposium.
The programme has been organised to spread awareness on the need to preserve rare animal Sangai (brow antlered deer) at Keibul Lamjao National Park and to promote eco-tourism.
It was reported in 1951that the Sangai was extinct.
However, 14 Sangais were found in Keibul Lamjao area in 1975 .
Until 2013, the total population of Sangai was put at 204 .
The last day of the summit will witness nature walk at KLNP, screening of environmental films, and prize distribution.
