RIMS Firing Victims remembered

The 19th RIMS Firing Victims Memorial Day was observed under the aegis of RIMS Firing Victims Memorial Observation Committee at RIMS campus here today.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Th Iboyaima, president of Irabot Foundation stated that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958 was first imposed by the British colonial rule in India to suppress the Indian freedom movement and it was later imposed in Manipur by the Government of India.
He asserted that many crimes, atrocities and cold-blooded murders have been carried out by security forces in the State in the name of curbing insurgency and added that the Act should be repealed from the State as it is not wanted and sought by people.
Pointing out that the number of Indian Army personnel deployed in the State will be much more than the hill people, he said all politicians in the State should put in concerted effort to repeal the AFSPA from the State.
Along with paying floral tributes to the photos of those who killed in the RIMS firing incident, a two minute silence was also observed during the observance as a mark of respect.
Today's observance was also attended by Laishram Nandakumar, MLA Uripok; Dr Ch Arun, Superintendent, RIMS and Maibam Mema, president of Kwai Lalambung Makhong Meira Paibi.
