RIMS (RMC) firing victims remembered

In memory of those slain in indiscriminate firing by CRPF personnel inside the erstwhile Regional Medical College campus nearly two decades back, the 19th RIMS Firing Victims' Memorial Day was held today at the victims' memorial square, RIMS Gate.
As chief guest of the anniversary observance Uripok AC MLA L Nandakumar leading the gathering in laying floral wreaths at the memorial square fervently appealed to the security forces to abstain from any action that could create everlasting fear psychosis.
On this day in 1995, the CRPF personnel opened fire inside the then RMC campus killing nine persons, including a medical students on the spot, besides injuring many others.
Those slain included medical student Momi Riba from Arunachal Pradesh, Sulabh Toilet Complex care-taker Laimayum Pradeep Sharma, rickshaw puller Md Zakir Hussain and auto-rickshaw operators Toijam Rajendro, Wangkhem Opendro, Hijam Khogen, Saikhom Premchand, Angom Devendro and RK Khogen.
Along with family members of the deceased persons, Irabot Foundation president Th Iboyaima and RIMS Firing Victims' Memorial Trust managing trustee H Kunjamohon Singh also attended the observance function.
