Road safety measures must to reduce road accidents: Ratankumar

Works and Transports Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar has said that the officials concerned should take up appropriate road safety measures to reduce the number of road accidents in the State.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the inaugural function of a workshop on "Road Safety Audit and Mitigation Measures" organized by Public Works Department, Manipur at its Conference Hall here today.
Minister Ratankumar further said that proper development of roads is one of the most important measures which would ensure road safety and reduce the number of road accidents.
The engineers and other officials concerned should consider the types of vehicles available in the market while planning for development of roads.
Improper roads can cause fatal road accidents.
So, proper study and planning should be done prior to construction and widening of roads, he noted.
He also stated that the Government has taken up various works pertaining to development and widening of national highways in order to prevent road accidents.
The function was also attended by Chief Engineer of Manipur PWD M Lokendro, Project Director of Northeast States Road Investment Programme Joykumar, former Chief Engineer of Manipur PWD Th Joykumar, Head of Civil Engineering Department, MIT Suresh and Road Safety Specialist Dr TS Reddy.
