Imphal, May 30 2018:
Reformist Students Front in collaboration with womenfolk and Meira Paibis of Kwakeithel blocked the roads near Kwakeithel bazaar and launched a protest demanding protection of the indigenous people of the State and immediate unconditional release of PRJA convenor Erendro Leichombam.
The protest began from 1 pm today and the women/protesters raised various slogans.
Speaking to media persons, president of Reformist Students Front, Johnson Waikhom said that the arrest of PRJA convenor Erendro Leichombam in connection with a viral video which was uploaded by six non locals threatening Manipuris, is a shameful act.
The BJP Government should not stoop to such low standards, he said and demanded Erendro be released unconditionally at the earliest.
Questioning the existence of law and justice in the State, he added that RSF will continue to launch protest after protest with Meira Paibis and womenfolk with the aim of protecting the indigenous people of Manipur.
On the other hand, the association's general secretary Thoiba Khumancha said that RSF vehemently condemns the attitude of the Government and urged the people of the State to stop giving rent facilities to non locals.
He also urged the women of the State (if they marry non locals) to go with their husbands to the State their husbands came from and to come to the State only on occasions like Cheiraoba and Ningol Chakkouba.
The protesters raised slogans condemning the action of the Government, demanding unconditional release of Erendro Leichombam, urging the people to stop buying from non locals, stop giving rent facilities to non locals, demanding the Government to pass a Bill for protecting the indigenous people and warning against any attempt to harm the territorial integrity of the State.
