Imphal, May 30 2018:
The Joint Students' Forum Dhanamanjuri College of Arts, Science and Commerce has announced that it would boycott all the Government employees as well as their works related to the upgrading of the college into a University due to the failure of the State Government to fulfil the forum's demands.
It has also announced that it will ban issue of admission forms for the courses to the College with immediate effect.
Speaking to media persons at the forum's office today, its convenor Aribam Vikash said that the present Government and the authorities concerned have failed to take up any kind of positive steps regarding the forum's demands which have been placed on different occasions through various dailies and electronic media.
He continued that the forum had urged for an increase in the number of PG subjects in the newly upgraded DM University from the beginning of the first session and had also warned the authorities concerned and State Government that it would take up different forms of agitation in case no positive response is seen.
The act of State Government and authorities concerned is condemnable and shows that they are not concerned at all of the welfare of the students, he alleged.
The convenor further lamented that initially the students thought that after upgrading DM College to a university, extra PG subjects would be included in the university thus providing immense opportunities to the students but the Government and the authorities concerned have failed terribly as currently, the number of seats in DM University is only 2000.He explained that during the course of time, a notification was issued by the authority concerned informing that the admission forms for bachelor degree/graduation will be available from June 1.Condemning the action, he informed that the Joint Students Forum of DM for Arts, Science and Commerce has banned the issue of admission form for Bachelor degree /graduation immediately until the forum's demands are met.
Vikash continued that the forum has also boycotted all the officers concerned related to upgradation of the college into a university immediately as well.
Explaining that a large number of students from Manipur often go to other parts of the country after graduation for their PG courses (spending huge amount of money) due to the limited facilities available in the State, he claimed that despite knowing all these facts, the State Government and the authority remain intentionally oblivious of the issue.
He also alleged that the newly upgraded DM University is just in namesake as nothing has been accomplished or taken up regarding the process by the State Government and the authority concerned till date.
Thus, the forum has decided to ban the issue of admission forms of DM University Bachelor degree /graduation until the PG subjects are included and the required teachers and materials are provided by the State Government.
Vikash warned that if the Government fails to take up necessary steps despite repeated appeals, JSF DM College might adopt different forms of agitation which might affect the academic atmosphere of the college.
