Imphal, May 30 2018:
Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM) organized a one day discussion programme on "Present fees structures of private schools and its impact to the society" at Hindi Parishad Hall, Old Assembly, Imphal today.
The function was graced by Th Kirankumar, Director of Education & State Project Director (SSA/RMSA), Manipur, Nongthombam Sanahal Singh, advisor, SSUM, Lamabam Mahendra Singh, Chairman, Council of Higher Secondary, Manipur, Akham Joykumar Singh, Chairman in-charge & Secretary, Board of Secondary Education, Manipur and Sumati Sougrakpam, secretary, All Manipur Students' Guradian's Association as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the function, Director Kirankumar underlined the need to adopt a modus operandi in running private schools, including the fees structure and transparency of wages/salaries for teachers for the betterment of the public and guardians.
He asserted that many private schools in the State are running at the whims of their owners and are completely overlooking the desires and interests of the public.
Many of the private schools have concealed their unsuitable fees structure (among other things which will not be according to the taste of the public) while advertising to the public.
They only highlighted their assets to attract people, he added.
However, when students get enrolled in the private schools, students and parents often find a lot of undisclosed and undesirable things regarding the mode of functioning of the schools (such as expensive school fees, congested rooms and campus with no playground apart from making it mandatory for the students to buy books and uniforms from the school's own shops), the.
Director pointed out.
Stressing on the development of mass tuition culture in the State, Kirankumar opined that many students are compelled to go for private tuitions as the school teachers maintain tuition classes for students in order to meet their requirements since their salaries are quite low.
Director Kirankumar further stressed on adopting transparency of private teachers' salaries so as not to arouse the attention of the concerned authorities and the public while adding that the private school teachers will probably not conduct tuition if they are paid suitably.
He then conveyed that Government schools should not indulge in the competition through advertisement as it is not healthy.
The ultimate goal of education in Government schools is to make students achieve their success in their later life, but not solely for scoring high marks or bagging positions in examinations, he asserted.
