Imphal, May 30 2018:
The Council of Teachers Associations (COTA) has announced that they support and will join the ongoing agitation of State Government employees on the demand for 7th Pay from June 5 .
Speaking to media persons at Johnstone Higher Secondary School here today, COTA co-convenor Ch Shantakumar said that COTA comprises of All Manipur Elementary School Teachers Association, All Manipur Secondary School Teachers Association and All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturers Welfare Association and it has around 18,000 members (teachers) .
COTA has been staying away from the employees' strike all these days in the interest of students but from June 5, it would launch different modes of agitation, Shantakumar said.
COTA members would launch their agitation with a sit-in-protest in front of Johnstone Hr Sec School on June 5.The next course of agitation would be decided after COTA holds a special meeting, said the co-convenor.
It is matter of serious concern that the State Government has been paying little attention even as the employees have completed 70 days of strike demanding implementation of the 7th Pay, he decried.
Pointing out that Central Government employees have been already enjoying the 7th Pay, Shantakumar asked whether separate markets can be opened for State Government employees and Central Government employees.
"We have no intention to launch cease work strike at the moment considering the fact that HSLC Exam results were announced a few days back and due process should be initiated for compartmental and improvement exams apart from other normal duties.
But we are compelled by the Government's total indifference", he said.
Two other COTA co-convenors namely M Joykumar and P Koireng too spoke at the press meet.
