Awareness programme on disaster management held

In order to sensitize people about preparedness during disasters, a one day training cum awareness programme on disaster management was held at the Counting Hall of DC office, Thoubal on Wednesday.
The programme was organised by Disaster Management Institute, Relief and Disaster Management Department, Manipur with the District Administration, Thoubal.
Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal Haobam Rosita Devi inaugurated the programme which was attended by ADC, Thoubal, and officials from District Administration and local people.
Speaking at the programme, Namita Devi Tongbram, Training Officer, Relief and Disaster Management, Manipur informed that the State of Manipur falls u nder Zone Five as an earthquake prone area making it vulnerable to floods, landslides, windstorms, pests attack and other hazards.
A comprehensive and proactive approach and concerted efforts of all relevant departments is essential to minimize the adverse effects of any natural calamities, she added.
During the training, Hav O Achouba Singh, sub-team Officer and his team from State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Manipur demonstrated various life saving methods and techniques.
