WMC adopts resolutions

The World Meetei Council (WMC) has taken at least five resolutions regarding the situation in Manipur during an all civil society organisation (CSO) meet held at Rajbari, Manipuri Basti, Guwahati, today.
As per a statement of the Council, the first resolution is for Government to consider three point agenda viz implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur, granting Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to Meetei and to protect the indigenous people against the 'atrocities meted out by immigrants in Manipur' to resolve the ethnic conflict between Meetei and Chin-Kuki people.
Condemning the 'destruction of Meetei ancient temples' amid the conflict and demand for separate administration raised by 10 Chin-Kuki MLAs, the meeting unanimously agreed to urge the Government to abrogate Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact with Kuki militant groups.
The gathering also asked Mizoram Chief MInister Zoramthanga to not interfere in the internal affairs of Manipur.
To urge political parties to stop politicising the conflict in Manipur was the fourth resolution of the meeting.
The final resolution asked media houses not to portray victims of the conflict as perpetrators, The meeting was presided by WMC
chairman Heigrujam Nabashyam.
