Imphal, May 21 2023:
A new political fo-rum named United Political and Social Forum (UPSF) has been floated with the main objective to resolve the present crisis and bring back peace and normalcy in Manipur.
Addressing media per-sons at its newly opened office at Ghari Awang Leikai Saturday, UPSF convener H Gitajen said Zo Re-unification Organ-isation (ZORO) based in Mizoram capital Aizawl submitted a memoran-dum to the United Nations office in New York (USA) on May 13 and portrayed the history of Manipur in a wrong way.
Condemning the ZORO memorandum, H Gitajen said the history of Mani-pur cannot be wrongly portrayed at any platform and the present communal clash in Manipur should be resolved through careful study of history of the land.
He also said that ZORO must be responsible for any flare up of the present crisis and asked the organisation based in Mizoram not to interfere in the internal affairs of Manipur.
UPSF chairman Soram lboyaima, who also attend-ed the press conference, said the communal vio-lence erupted on May 3 was unrelated with the demand for ST status of the Meetei/ Meitei but execution of long and well thought plan to form Kukiland in the hills particularly in Teng-noupal, Churachandpur, Chandel, Pherzawl and Kangpokpi.
It was unfor-tunate for the government of India's inability to stop such a plan, he said and questioned Government of India's continued promo-tion of immigrant Kukis who now wage war against the indigenous Meetei/ Meitei people.
According to Soram lboyaima, stringent action must be initiated against all the 10 Kuki MLAs who are campaigning for bifurca-tion of Manipur as they had taken oath to safe-guard state's integrity and secrecy.
