With Covid on the rise in many countries, mock drills held to face any eventuality

As in other parts of the country and in view of the surge in Covid cases in some countries, Covid response mock drills were carried out in different districts today .
Health and IPR Minister Dr S Ranjan Singh reviewed the readiness to handle fresh wavs of Covid at JNIMS and Thoubal District Hospitals today.
The Ministerial team visited the hospitals as part of the Nationwide precautionary measures being taken up under the instruction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking to media persons at JNIMS, Porompat, Dr Ranjan informed that the Centre as well as the State Governments have taken up certain measures to prevent resurgence of Covid in the country.
"The Union Health Minister, in a video conference on December 23 last, instructed all the States to gear up preparedness for COVID-19 to prevent another outbreak .
Accordingly, the State Health Department has taken up all possible steps to control Covid," he added.

He informed that review meetings have also been convened with the officials concerned in view of the rise in Covid cases in some countries.
Saying that hospital authorities have been instructed to keep medical equipment and infrastructure ready, he appealed to the public to wear face masks at public places and whenever possible.
During the visit at Thoubal district hospital, the Minister held a meeting with the officials and staff.
The Minister was accompanied by Additional Chief Secretary V Vumlunmang and Director of National Health Mission Dr.Somorjit Ningombam and others.
District Hospital, Ukhrul conducted the mock drill at its premises at Hungpung today to examine its preparedness to deal with resurgence of the pandemic.
The drill was conducted under the supervision of Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar and CMO Kapangring A' Shimray.
SDO Maibam Suranjoy, AC to DC Ukhrul, Medical Superintendent Dr Reisangmi Raikhan, District Surveillance Officer Dr Thotreichon J inspected the machines and other equipment installed in the hospital.
They also checked the oxygen plant, ventilators, oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders, ambulances, isolation wards and ICU of the district hospital.
Speaking to the media, Dr Kapangring said that shortage of workforce is one of the major issues at the district hospital.
According to him, the district hospital will require additional medical staff and doctors if any emergency situations arise in the coming days.
The district hospital has a 50-bedded hospital block to treat Covid patients.
It is reported that ambulances, 20 ICU beds, and oxygen supply are all functional and ready for use at any time.
Bishnupur Deputy Commissioner Lourembam Bikram accompanied by ADM H Bobby Sharma visited Bishnupur district hospital today and assessed how equipped the hospital is to deal with any spike in Covid cases.
During the visit, CMO Dr L Raichandra Singh, Medical Superintendent Dr Sheitabala Devi, Medical Officer Dr Kh John and health officials concerned apprised the Deputy Commissioner on availability of manpower, equipment and other clinical and non-clinical resources.
The Deputy Commissioner also inspected the Intensive Care Unit centre, Isolation Ward, ambulances and PSA Oxygen Plant of the hospital.
