IIIT foundation stone laid, power stations inaugurated

To enable people enjoy full benefits of all the development programmes taken up in both the hills and valley of Manipur is the motto and objective of the incumbent Government and the question of taking credit does not arise at all, stated Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
A newly constructed power sub-station of 33/11 KV capacity and a newly constructed Saitu-Gamphazol SDO office were inaugurated by the Chief Minister today at Gamnom-Sapermeina.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Ibobi stated that no development projects can achieve progress without people's cooperation.

The State Government has already decided to open a new Treasury Office at Saitu- Gamphazol in order to addr- ess the inconveniences of stu- dents, pensioners and general public of the people of the three Assembly segments of Sadar Hills.
To open the new Treasury Office, the State Government is awaiting RBI's approval.
Claiming that several projects/programmes are be- ing implemented in order to bring uniform development across the hills and valley of the State, Ibobi informed that Kangchup-Geljang SDO of- fice and Bungte Chiru SDO/ BDO office have been acti- vated for the convenience of people residing in remote ar- eas of Saitu AC.
33/11 KV power sub-sta- tions have been already open- ed at Kangpokpi and Saikul.
The inauguration of another power sub-station for Saitu- Gamphazol today would further improve power situa- tion in the area.

Plans are afoot to construct a 132/33 KV power sub-sta- tion at Saitu with loans from the World Bank, he contin- ued.
Talking about potable wa- ter supply in hill areas, Ibobi stated that a number of water supply schemes were taken up in hill areas but many of these schemes could not be com- pleted due to subversive activities and disturbances.
Taking due note of the hardships faced by people dwelling at high altitudes re- garding potable water, the lion's share of funds sanc- tioned under NEC and NLCPR was invested in the hill districts.
IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip remarked that most of the roads of Sadar Hills are quite better now even though people have been facing difficulties about potable water.
The situation would improve considerably if the Imphal-Saikul road is blacktopped.
The Congress Government has taken up many major development projects in both the hills and valley of the State including construction of mini secretariats at all district headquarters, Ngamthang added.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Rural Development Minister Francis Ngajokpa, MLA Kh Devendra and MLA Alexander Pao were also present at the gathering.
Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated another 33/11 KV power sub-station at Sekmai before laying foundation stone of a Indian Institute of Information Technology at Mayangkhang Ningthoupham, Senapati district.
At Mayangkhang Ningthoupham, the Chief Minister that the IIIT will provide tremendous advantages to many youths of the district in particular and the State as a whole who have potential in IT sector.
He urged the people to cooperate and be a pool of resources towards developing Manipur as an IT hub not only in the North East but the entire South East Asian countries.
Wishing the people of Senapati a happy and prosperous new year on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam emphasized the importance of peace in bringing development and changes in the society.
"Where there is peace, unity and love, there always is development", pointed out Dy CM while adding that development never flourishes in place where there is no peace and tranquillity.
While lauding the state Chief Minister for setting up the IIIT Manipur at Mayangkhang Ningthoupham Dy.
CM Gaikhangam said that IIIT Manipur could be achieved with the keen and personal interest of the State Chief Minister.
Minister Francis Ngajokpa and Ngamthang Haokip also spoke on the occasion and underscored the importance of promoting unity and brotherhood in ensuring sustainable development.
Cultural dances and folk songs of various communities added a festive flavour to the function.
