State Junior and Youth Boxing Championships : Soibam Yoihenba clinches youth men's 71 kg title

Imphal, October 13 2023: Soibam Yoihenba claimed the youth men's 71 kg category gold medal in the State Level Boxing Championships for 31st Junior Boys, 15th Junior Girls, 6th Youth Men and Women's being underway at Khuman Lampak Boxing Arena.

Soibam Yoihenba of Bishnupur defeated Khundongbam Biken Singh of IW in the final to earn the top honour today after Huidrom Rishi of Imphal West defeated Md Mujahid of Kakching for the youth men's 48 kg category title.

The day also saw Amarjit Takhellambam of Bishnupur reach the youth men's 51 kg final with a semi-final victory over Herison Phurailatpam.

The final line up of the youth men's 54 kg, 60 kg and 63.5 kg were also decided today.

Md Miraj of Kakching defeated Yumkhaibam Arnold of Imphal West to set up a 54 kg title clash with Meinam Khristino Renish of Imphal West who beat Irungbam Malemnganba of Bishnupur in the earlier semi-final clash.

Elangbam Sunanda of Kakching who earned a semi-final walkover will in the meantime face Leichombam Lamnganba of Imphal West who beat Laishubam Radheshyam of Bishnpur in an earlier semi-final clash, in the 60 kg title clash tomorrow.

The 63.5 kg title clash will be fought between Aribam Sakil of Kakching who registered a semi-final win over Konjengbam Rodick of Imphal West and Yaikhomba Laishram of Bishnupur who beat Bendish Takhellambam in another semi-final clash.

Meisnam Ratan of Kakhing also earned the 57 kg final berth with a semi-final walkover.

In the youth women's final bouts, Ningthoujam Manda Chanu of Thoubal defeated Khumanthem Sarju of Imphal West to seal the 54 kg crown as Elangbam Thoicha of Thoubal, defeated Sanasam Bandana of Kakching for the 48 kg title, Moirangthem Luxmi of Kakching defeated Venika Yumnam of Bishnupur in the 50 kg final and Huidrom Karuna of Thoubal beat Salam Helena for the 52 kg category title.

Ukhrul's Nimsolan Khapai Shimrah wins junior girls' 63 kg title

In the title clashes of the junior women's competitions, Ukhrul's Nimsolan Shimrah prevailed over Tekcham Neha of Thoubal for the 63 kg category title as Menaka Sharungbam of Imphal East defeated Khumanthem Sinthoi in the 54 kg title clash.

In the 57 kg category final, Yumnam Rakhi of Kakching beat Leimapokpam Sanjana of Imphal West before Yumnam Niha of Kakching clinched the 60 kg category title by beating Phuritshabam Renuka of Imphal West in the final.

Earlier in the day, Kiran Chingakham of Imphal West got a semi-final walkover in the 46 kg category competition to set up title clash with Thokchom Lucky Devi of Bishnupur who outlasted aheibam Thoibisana Chanu of Kakching.

Gunshalu Khumba of Noney who beat Yirmi Muivah of Ukhrul in the meantime will face Luwangleima Soram of Imphal West who beat Ningthoujam Anjali of Kakching in the 50 kg title clash tomorrow.

Sneha Thangjam of Imphal East who beat WS Chonshim of Ukhrul in a 48 kg category semi-final clash will take on Loithongbam Bidya of Bishnupur who defeated Lantham Anjuta of Kakching in another semi-final clash, in the title clash tomorrow.

The 52 kg category clash will see Ningthoujam Chaoba of Kakching take on Themsingphi R Makan.

Chaoba saw off Loitongbam Luxmi in a semi-final clash today before Themsingphi outlasted Chingshubam Reena of Imphal East in another semi-final clash.

Amaraj Wahengbam of Bishnupur claims junior boys' 46 kg category title

Amaraj Wahengbam of Bishnupur earned the junior boys' 46 kg category title with a victory over Thokchom Thoiba of Thoubal in the final today.
