Imphal, October 13 2023:
The main reason behind the continuation of violence in the state is the mismanagement of the government which claims of return of normalcy when there is no peace in reality and focuses on trivial matters instead of addressing the real issue, said Thawai Mirel Women's Wing.
Addressing a press meet at its office here on Friday, Women's Wing convenor Thokchom Sujata said that the government recently declared peace has returned in Phougakchao Ikhai but on the contrary, serenity is nowhere to be found in the area, as people are still taking risk by entering their homes and living there just to protect their properties.
Spending a couple of nights there would bring out the truth, she said, while urging the Governor to visit the village within five days to take stock of the situation.
Speaking about the arrest made by CBI in relation with the abduction and murder of two students, she demanded the government authority to expedite the investigation and recover their bodies, which the family members have been waiting for.
It is unfortunate that CBI has not been able to recover the bodies even after announcement of a significant breakthrough in the case.
While providing livelihood means is crucial for sustaining the lives of the displaced people, ignoring the core issues and delaying in delivering justice will not restore peace in the state, she contended.
Apart from the two students, there are several missing people and no initiatives have been taken up to locate their whereabouts.
Further contending that the government has not been able to ensure safe passage along the two national highways, the convenor pointed out that incidents of armed attack, extortion and assault are rampant on the highway with the government turning a blind eye on this crucial issue too.
Ignoring such issues and focusing on trivial matters is fuelling the crisis, Sujata contended.
She also strongly condemned the excessive force used by personnel of Jat Regiment against Meira Paibi members on Thursday and brutal crackdown on student protestors in the past.
Sujata also condemned the Central government for remaining silent over the situation in the state and called upon BJP's allies in the state to withdraw their support to the BJP government.
