Poppy plantation banned in Liangmai area

Imphal, October 13 2023:
Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M), an apex organisation of Liangmai Naga tribe, in its half yearly meeting held on Thursday at Tamah (Piuleklong), Tamei sub-division, Tamenglong district has unanimously resolved to ban poppy plantation/cultivation in Liangmai Naga inhabited areas of Manipur with immediate effect.
As such, the LNC directed all the village authorities concerned to destroy poppy fields within October failing which the LNC-M will take stern actions against poppy planters.
The Liangmai body further resolved that no portion of land or forest will be allowed for carrying out or leased out to anyone for the purpose of poppy plantation in 'Liangmai Naga areas'.
LNC further appealed to the Government of India and state government to take up serious action to eradicate illegal poppy plantations and urged all right thinking citizens to contribute and give their best effort in creating a drug free community.
