Imphal, October 13 2023:
A written complaint for removing the line 'The Kukis rose into rebellion (1917-1919) fortheir independence' mentioned in page 137 of school textbook (social science) for class X of the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM) has been made by an individual.
The individual named RK Bijayalaxmi of Sagolband Moirang Leirak, Imphal lodged the complaint to secretary of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur and submitted copies of the same to chief minister, education minister and other relevant officials.
In the complaint, RK Bijayalaxmi said that she is niece of late RK Rajendra Singh (Lt Col) who authored the book entitled 'Manipur after the coming of Kukis' .
According to her complaint, the controversial line 'The Kukis rose into rebellion (1917-1919) for their independence' is being taught to hundreds and thousands of students every year.
BOSEM misleads people more particularly the young minds of students by teaching such untrue and controversial insertion, she said in the complaint adding that insertion of such disputed line in textbook even triggered the present crisis in Manipur.
Questioning as to how the Kukis could have rebellion for their independence or whether they have any originality or land of their own and whether they have been subjected to be ruled/suppressed by any other nations, Bijayalaxmi recalled a line in RK Rajendra Singh's book on page 3 'There was no Kuki War of independence (1917-1919)' with further specific expression of traits, betrayal, opportunist and savagery nature of Kukis.
While stating that the foreword of the school textbook invites any opinion/suggestion for development of the book, RK Bijayalaxmi said the complaint is being filed for deleting the controversial line coupled with an immediate corrigendum of the same by removing it without any loss of time.
She also said that the complaint is being made in the interest of the Meetei people, its land and integrity.
