Imphal, June 17 2023:
For the 3rd round of Economic Survey carried out by Manipur Indigenous Conservation Forum, members of the forum along with 23 volunteers today visited three relief camps opened at Phayeng High School, Phayeng; Praja High School, Lamshang and SAI Complex Utlou.
A release issued by MICF informed that in the survey, data pertaining to 350 inmates who are taking refuge at the three relief camps were taken.
The inmates were duly informed of the purpose of the economic survey and it was highlighted that the forum is committed to avail/seek relief for the victims from the State and Central Government in the form of various schemes & programmes which are available for the public.

Alongside the survey, relief materials such as packaged drinking water, baby diapers, milk, tea leaves, sugar and monetary aid for construction of rain water harvesting structure at Praja High School was also provided by the Forum.
The inmates taking refuge at SAI Complex, Utlou expressed that they are being kept and provisions of jobs in nearby areas have been provided to them.
They also expressed their gratitude to Education Minister Th Basantakumar for regularly looking after their needs and requirements.
However, the inmates taking shelter at Phayeng High School and Praja High School highlighted the problem of acute shortage of water and manpower at the camps and requested the authorities concerned to address the issue.
After the survey, the Forum conducted a meeting with all the members & volunteers.
The meeting observed that it was very shameful for the State & Central Government that owing to their inactivity and incompetency to solve the current problem in Manipur, a combined group of 15 CSOs of Manipur have joined hands and taken recourse seeking help from the United Nations and its agencies, through a written memorandum.
The meeting also raised a big question mark on the success or failure of the Peace Committee set up by the Central Government wherein several people of Manipur have declined/ rejected to be members of the said Committee.
MICF further appealed to the Central and State Government to take immediate action to bring justice to the victims and book the culprits under the provisions of law, before international agencies come to the rescue, as this will only mean "a brutal murder of democracy" .
