Imphal, June 24 2023:
The Khurai Mothers' Association (KMA) has condemned the alleged life attempt on its secretary Sorokhaibam ongbi Geeta by a mob at Sabungkhok yesterday.
Meanwhile, Youths and Students Welfare Club, Sabungkhok and village authority and meira paibi of the locality have clarified that they were not associated with the assault of the two women.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, S Geeta who is one of the women accused of giving information to Kukis said that she along with some of the association members went to Urangpat at around 11 am after the locals of Urangpat sought some assistance from them.
Saying that they were stopped by the Army near Chadong, she claimed that one of the women who accompanied her had an altercation with a mob at the area.
"Soon, they assaulted us for simply saying that she was with her," she claimed.
Claiming that they were then taken to a nearby club by the mob who continued assaulting them, Geeta said that she could have died had CAF & PD Minister L Susindro not arrived on time.
Asking how she can be an informer of Kukis, Geeta appealed to one and all to frame anyone without verification.
KMA member Ngangom Ibomcha said that Geeta was rounded up by the mob on the charge of giving information to the Kukis.
Claiming that Geeta only went to Urangpat in Imphal East to aid the civilians affected by the gunfight in the area yesterday on the request of the locals, she said that the mob attacking the two women on the charge of providing information to Kukis without any verification is condemnable.
She then urged the womenfolk of Sabungkhok to clarify about the incident within three days.
In another press briefing, one W Chaoba representing the people of Sabungkhok said that it was people of other localities who created the scene in their areas.
He also said that the locals of Sabungkhok also took the two women to a safer location.
Saying that some women from other localities followed them and assaulted the two women, he said that the only thing the locals of Sabungkhok did was try to rescue them (the two women) .
