Kangpokpi, June 24 2023:
The Committee onTribals Unity (COTU), Sadar Hills Kangpokpi district vehemently condemned the attempt made to intrude into Gamgiphai, the bordering village of Kangpokpi district with Imphal from the valley.
An aerial view of drone footage showed thousands of women gathered at Kan-glatongbi Nepali village just a few metres away from Gamgiphai foiled by the security forces from moving any further towards the bordering village.
COTU general secretary Lamminlun Sing-sit said that it is surprisingly unfortunate that the highly regarded Meira Paibi of Manipur has become so intent in creating chaos in the already volatile Manipur.
He continued that if the security forces had not intervened in time, the situation could have turned otherwise as thousands of people on Gamgiphai side were also ready to fight back.
While appreciating the district police, CRPF and Assam Rifles, especially the AR Mahila in controlling the situation and maintaining law and order, Lamminlun said that the women were clearly seen gathered along the National Highway at Kanglatongbi and marching towards Gamgiphai.
The women were also seen engaging an excavator in dismantling the road leading to Luwang-sanggol and Phaileng, two sensitive border villages in the periphery of Kangpokpi.
The road is important and only connectivity for reinforcement of security forces ih case of any violence at Luwangsanggol and Phaileng village, which are frequently attacked by armed miscreants.
He then strongly appealed to all concerned from the valley to avoid such unwanted activities in the future, while further urging authority concerned to repair the dismantled road at the earliest.
