Defend Meetei settlements in hills: Johnson

Asserting that the people of Manipur will not allow encroachment in the Meetei settlement in the hills and foothill areas, BJP Mani pur Pradesh spokesperson Elangbam Johnson has called for a united stand against such attempts.
Johnson along with Keis-hamthong Kendra Volunteers' Force (KKVF) mem bers visited relief camps and distributed essential items on Saturday.
Interacting with the media at one of re lief camps at Chairen Makha Leikai, where 86 displaced people of Tangjeng Ahallup and Chandonpokpi villages are taking refuge, Johnson said that this crisis has affect ed large number of people.
He called upon the people to stand united to defend the Meetei settlements in both hills and foothill areas.
Terming the present crisis as a clash engineered by some powerful persons in the narco-terrorism network with vested interest, he called for identifying those persons and take a stand against them.
He drew attention of the govern -ment to formulate a policy to ensure safe and early resettlement of the displaced people in their respective villages stating that the public will' render full support in such measures.
Displaced people in the relief camp told media persons that they ran for their lives when the armed Kuki militants attacked their villages.
They escaped without anything except for the clothes on their back.
Welcoming the assurance of the chief minister to dismantle the bunkers set up by Kuki militants in their villages, they appealed to the government to dismantle the bunkers at the earliest.
