Moirang, June 24 2023:
Kuki militants once again opened fire toward Meitei villagers who went to the high canal of Loktak Lift Irrigation (LLI) for stocking water at paddy fields.
A group of Meitei farmers from Sunusiphai went to the high canal at around 5.30 pm today to release water but they were fired at by Kuki militants from Leingang Kuki village.
Some villagers said that troops of Sikh Regiment were stationed not far away from the place of firing but the troops did nothing to protect the innocent farmers.
The farmers said that there will be famine next year if paddy cultivation cannot be done this year on account of Kuki militants' continuous attacks.
Notably, Chief Minister N Biren went to Kwakta yesterday and assured necessary measures so that agricultural activities can be done at the peripheral areas.
Paddy cultivation will be impossible in peripheral areas if the Chin-Kuki continue to attack farmers every time they go to fields, they said.
Over 100 people have been killed in violence.
