AMWJU, EGM condemn assault on scribes

Imphal, June 24 2023:
All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) condemned excesses committed by central security force (CSF) on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday in Imphal East district wherein a journalist was assaulted and property of another vandalised.
On Saturday, AMWJU and EGM held a joint meeting and condemned highhandedness by the CSF along with resolving to press authority concerned to ensure such incidents do not recur.
Around 1.10 am Saturday, CSF personnel conducted search operation at the house of AMWJU internal auditor Nabakumar Khagokpam at Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai, citing that rioters were seen rushing into his res -idence.
During the operation, the security personnel entered Nabakumar's house by shredding the GI sheets fence and also damaged the windshield of a Maruti Suzuki SX4 car.
Earlier, around 10:30 pm Friday, a team of Rapid Action Force (RAF) detained Ichel Express sub-editor Haobam Pravinkumar near Khurai Popular High School and also assaulted him, it added.
The meeting also reaffirmed its earlier decision to boycott civic action programme and achievement of RAF and CRPF.
The scribes' bodies further appealed all not to obstruct journalists returning home after performing their duties.
