Workshop / awareness programme on PMEGP held

Directorate of Trade, Commerce & Industries, Government of Manipur, today organised a 1-day State Level Workshop cum District Level Awareness Programme on "Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP)" at Lamphelpat, Imphal.
The programme was conducted under the sponsorship of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Government of India.
It was attended by Pradeep Kumar Jha, Commissioner (Textiles, Commerce & Industry); Director of Textiles, Commerce & Industry, Yumnam Bobita; Assistant General Manager, State Bank of India, RBO Imphal, Kh Okendro and Director, Khadi & Village Industries Commission, A S S Dewan as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Pradeep Kumar Jha stressed on the importance of organising such workshop cum awareness programmes and added PMEGP is a scheme introduced by the Government of India to promote self-employment and mitigate unemployment problems in the country.
He elaborated on the need for banks to support entrepreneurs to generate continuous & sustainable employment opportunities in the State.
"PMEGP is a credit linked subsidy programme launched in 2008 by merging the two erstwhile schemes called Prime Minister's Rojgar Yojana (PMRY) and Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP)", he added.
The Commissioner also shared that the scheme is administered by the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises with KVIC as the nodal agency.
