Imphal, November 09 2023:
The North East Students' Organisation (NESO) has categorically stated that the spurt of gun violence in the last few days clearly shows the utter failure of the Central and State forces in enforcing law.
NESO organised a sit-in protest along with one student organisation at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai Community Hall, today.
Speaking to the media, assistant secretary general of NESO Wangjam Sanatomba said that the Centre and the State Government have failed to resolve the protracted crisis in Manipur .
Manipur still is in a restive situation due to the absence of serious intervention from the Centre, he said and added that the Government can end the violence in a couple of days if they sincerely want to.
Asking if the Centre even takes the people of North East India as bonafide citizens of this country, Sanatomba continued that violence in Manipur lingering on for over half a year even after deploying large companies of Central security forces is a very serious matter.
There is no respite in gun violence in Manipur even today, he said while asking what the security forces have been doing since the last many months.
Why is the Government still not holding talks with Meetei and Kuki leaders simultaneously and work out a solution to the ongoing crisis, he asked and continued that the Central Government not providing a room for the warring communities to hold talks is questionable.
He then claimed the violence in Manipur was politically designed.
Urging the Centre to refrain from belittling the issue in Manipur, the NESO leader cautioned that they may launch violent agitation if the Central Government continues to ignore the suffering of the people.
NESO met many displaced people from Churachandpur and Imphal on August 1 and heard their grievances, he said and continued that today's protest was staged as per the resolution they took
on October 31 .
