Thoubal, February 05 2024:
IDPs from Moreh have threatened to launch a counter blockade along Imphal-Moreh Road from February 9 onwards if Tengnoupal District Village Volunteers fail to lift the prohibitions on sale of goods to State forces by February 8 .
Speaking on behalf of Moreh IDPs during a press conference at Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex, Thangjam Ibungo from Moreh Ward No 7 stated that people from different communities have made Moreh their home and State forces were deployed in the border town to protect the lives and properties of civilians.
However, IDPs from Moreh strongly condemn the prohibitions imposed by the Tengnoupal District Village Volunteers on shopkeepers against selling food and other essential commodities to the State forces and to further close their shops in a bid to drive out the State security personnel from Moreh, said Thangjam Ibungo.
Calling upon Tengnoupal District Village Volunteers to lift all such prohibitions by February 8, Ibungo stated that preparations are complete to launch a counter blockade along Imphal-Moreh Road from February 9 with the support of various CSOs.
The press briefing was attended by numerous IDPs from Moreh who are currently staying at relief camps.
