Imphal, February 05 2024:
Political activist Maheshwar Thounaojam contended that the Kukis are trying to create a fake history around the fictitious Anglo-Kuki War while there was no approval from the government on construction of Anglo-Kuki War centenary gate along the Tiddim road in Churachandpur.
The Public Works Department had on December 19, 2022 written a letter to the then Churachandpur DC to remove the illegally constructed Anglo-Kuki War centenary gate in Churachandpur but the district administration is yet to take any action till date, Maheshwar informed media persons at his Keishampat residence, here, on Monday.
According to RPI national general secretary, Kukis are not only trying to spin false history around the fabricated Anglo-Kuki War 1917-19 but also making enormous efforts to incorporate lessons on this fake history in universities across India.
An RTI application was filed in this regard to the state works department and the department has given the reply.
As per reply to the RTI application, the department gave no approval for construction of the centenary gate and the department even intimated DC Churachandpur through a letter on December 19, 2022 for removing the structure.
However, DC Churachandpur is yet to take any action and the structure remains intact till date, Maheshwar said, adding that Kukis have been spreading false propaganda that the violence erupted on May 3, 2023 after the Meeteis tried to torch the gate.
While asserting that the fake history of Anglo-Kuki War being created by the Kukis should be nullified to avoid misunderstanding in future, he appealed to the government particularly the department concerned for dismantling the illegally constructed structure.
