Imphal, February 05 2024:
Laishram Bidyananda, a key member of the Youth of Manipur (YoM) has been remanded to police custody for four more days till February 8 in connection with a viral video message.
Laishram Bidyananda Singh (30 yrs) s/o (L) Laishram Sanayaima Singh of Kakwa Asem Leikai was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West through video conferencing after completion of 3 days police custody remand along with a prayer for further police custody remand.
This time the Unlawful Activities and Prevention Act (UAPA) has been invoked.
On the other hand, the defence counsel of Laishram Bidyananda filed a remand objection along with a prayer to release him on bail.
The APP of the State submitted that on February 2 at around 11 am, Cyber Crime Unit Imphal West came across a viral voice message in various social media.
The APP reproduced the viral voice message as "All people, if we have to stop the current violence in Manipur, everyone should stop helping (those) in the relief camps.
So that all the inmates will start agitation against the Manipur Government and large scale violence is needed just like June 18, 2001.Everyone has to join the agitation/violence without fearing death" .
The viral message directly instigates and provokes the public to rise for large scale violence against the Government of India and the State Government.
Besides, it threatens all Government offices, employees as well as the CM of Manipur and MLAs (both ruling and Opposition) .
On interrogation, the accused admitted to having committed the offence charged against him.
He disclosed that he is serving as an active member of the social organization "Youths of Manipur'' and he is having one Facebook page name as "Kangleipak Hulk" and he has been using different social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Whatsapp etc.
An expert team of CFSL, Assam is arriving shortly for necessary legal procedure.
If the accused person is released on bail, he may abscond and he may threaten important witnesses thereby tampering evidence, said the APP.
Moreover, if he is released on bail there is a high chance of large scale agitation by YoM members, the APP added.
A requisition has been submitted to the Cyber Crime Police Station, Manipur in order to identify the admin of the Facebook page Kanglei Mapari where the viral voice message has been spread, the APP informed the Court.
It is suspected that the accused acquired a firearm bearing licence No.7814/IWD issued by District Magistrate, Imphal West using deceitful means.
In order to verify the authenticity of the gun licence, a requisition has been submitted to the District Magistrate, Imphal West through the Superintendent of Police, Imphal West to provide the documents and verification reports of issuing the gun licence, said the APP.
The Court, after hearing the APP, the defence counsel and on perusal of the case record, remanded Laishram Bidyananda Singh in police custody till February 8 .
Laishram Bidyananda will be produced before the Special NIA Court Imphal West on February 8 as UAPA has been added by police in the present case.
