Senapati, February 05 2024:
The Mayangkhang Area Naga Villages Core Committee has asked Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) to stop the gas pipeline works in its area from February 10 in view of the ongoing public agitation of banning National Highway - 2 expansion works due to prolonged delay of arbitration process.
In a statement, the core committee said that the demand is to avoid unwanted incidents arising from democratic agitation imposed by the affected land owners.
The Committee revealed that the Competent Authority of Land Acquisition (CALA) has fixed the land rate without any consultation with the affected land owners.
Therefore the affected beneficiaries refused to accept the compensation award for more than three months.
It was after a series of meeting and on the request of the CALA, representatives of the affected beneficiaries and the CALA signed MoU on July 31st 2021 and accepted the compensation award as the Competent Authority gave assurance that an arbitrator will be appointed and the final land rate will be decided through due arbitration process.
However, it remains incomplete till today after repeated delay and disruption owing to different issues including the prevailing conflict situation in the State.
The authorities concerned have failed to address the concerns of the affected land owners despite repeated deadlines leading to the banning of all kinds of highway expansion works.
The core committee cautioned that the relevant authorities should be held responsible for any untoward outcomes.
