SSU beat IUFC in Manoranjan tourney opener

Imphal, February 05 2024:
The 14th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial Football Tournament-2023-2024 organised by 143 Bn CRPF under the aegis of CRPF Manipur and Nagaland (M&N) Sector was inaugurated by MAHUD minister Y Khemchand Singh at SAI Sports Complex, Artificial Turf Ground, Takyel on Monday.
M&N Sector CRPF has been organising the tournament since 2010 in the memory of assistant commandant Ng Manoranjan Singh, a native of Yurembam Makha Leikai, the only son of Ng Budhachandra and Ng Mem-cha who sacrificed his life while fighting the Naxalites in Chhattisgarh on September 17, 2009 and was awarded Police Medal for Gallantry (Posthumously).
During the opening ceremony, CRPF M&N Sector IGP Akhilesh Prasad Singh shared an insight on the bravery of Shaheed Ng Manoranjan.
Minister Y Khemchand also offered floral tributes to the photo of the martyred officer and presented a shawl to Ng Memcha.
The programme was also attended by DIG Range Imphal CRPF PK Nayak, 143 Bn commandant Ravinder Sharma, ADG (L&O) Lupheng Kailun, IGP Themthing Ngasangva, DIG N Herojit Meitei, SP Imphal West Ksh Shivakanta Singh, BSF commandant Ahalewal, Johnstone Higher Secondary School principal, senior officers of CRPF, other dignitaries, media persons, youth and children.
In all, 24 top teams of Manipur are participating in the tournament this year, making it one of the most sought after tournaments in the state.
In the opening match, SSU defeated Imphal United FC 4-2 in penalty shootout.
IUFC's K Akash opened the account in 32nd minute but was equalised by SSU's Th Premjit (75th).The score line remained 1-1 at the end of scheduled time leading to a penalty shootout, which was won by SSU.
On Tuesday, the first match will be between YPHU and DMRAO at 10 am, while in the second match at 1 pm TYDA will take on RFCC (FC) .
