Imphal, October 08 2023:
The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) has refuted the charges levelled by Lukmai Sellup against the Commission in connection with the brutal killing of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi by Kuki militants.
Reportedly, Lukmai Sellup had stated that the Commission hasn't done anything in connection with the murder case of the two students, yesterday.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, Chairperson of MSCW Salam Ulka said that the Commission had on July 27 registered a case in connection with the murder of the two students and directed the Police Department to submit the status report on or before August 16 .
Saying that the Police Department sent their reply on August 14, she said that the FIR, however, was transferred to the CBI given the seriousness of the case.
Ulka Devi also said that the Commission had on September 27 written to the Director General of Police (DGP), Manipur to arrest all people involved in the murder case and to retrieve the bodies after the photos of the two students taken during captivity and presumably after murdering them were circulated widely on social media.
She continued that all evidence of the action taken up by MSCW can be seen from the office of the Commission during office hours.
Some regular cases have also been registered with the Commission pertaining to the ongoing violence including the alleged gang rape of a Meitei woman by Kuki militants and the naked parade of two Kuki women among others.
