Jiribam, October 08 2023:
Pointing out the glaring lack of basic amenities at Jiribam District Hospital, Jiri Development Organisation (JDO) has stated that the medical institution is being maintained merely as a 'Refer Hospital' .
JDO advisor Nongmaithem Sadananda Meitei made the remark during a press conference held at JDO Office.
It may be noted that a joint inspection of the hospital was conducted by United Jiri Youth League (UJYL) and JDO.
Addressing the media, Nongmaithem Sadananda Meitei stated that many student organisations such as DESAM, MSF, KSA and civil society organisations such as AJUCA and meira paibis have made repeated appeals to the concerned authorities to renovate and upgrade the lone hospital in Jiribam district.
However, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears so far.
He further pointed out many shortcomings in the hospital including lack of adequate/proper toilets, bathrooms, ultrasound and x-ray machines, oxygen plants, operation theatres, blood bank and shortage of pediatric and other necessary doctors.
He also questioned where alleged crores of funding, manpower and machines sanctioned by the State Government had been used.
Stating that UJYL and JDO will conduct similar inspections in the future, he cautioned that if the same shortcomings are discovered in future inspections then the concerned authority should be held accountable for the consequences.
Adding that this has been intimated to the Chief Minister, Health Minister, local MLA, Jiribam Deputy Commissioner and other relevant authorities in written submissions, he urged the concerned officials to address the issues plaguing the Jiribam District Hospital promptly.
The press meet was also attended by H Priyananda Singh, secretary, JDO; Ph Gynendro Meetei, president, UJYL; RK Sanajaoba, member, JDO and other members of the associations.
