One arrested for extortion, pistol recovered

Manipur Police on Sunday arrested one active member of an underground group with 9mm pistol and three bullets from Imphal West district on the charge of involvement in extortion activities in Imphal.
According to Police Control Room, the police also recovered three mobile phones and Rs 45,000 from possession of the arrestee.
In a release, the control room that during last 24 hours the situation in the state was tense due to sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protestors, but under control.
Search operations were conducted by security forces in fringe and vulnerable areas of Imphal West, Kakching and Thoubal districts, and 1599 persons detained for violations of standing orders in various districts, it added.
Manipur Police Control Room further informed that movement of 100 vehicles along NH 2 carrying essential items have been ensured, strict security measures taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it conveyed.
The release appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and confirm them from the rumour free helpline number-9233522822 and to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearby security forces immediately.
